We have confirmed our Akelaland swim test and pre-camp meeting.
Once again, Palmer Pool has graciously offered to let us do the test at their facility. Our time is SUNDAY JUNE 25th at 10 AM.
The swim test will take no more than ~45 minutes. Then we will have a pre-camp meeting at the pool to review the packing list, paperwork requirements, and review any questions ahead of camp. The pre camp meeting will take perhaps another 45 minutes.
In past years, the pool has allowed the families to stick around and swim afterwards as well if anyone is interested.
All kids need a swim test before camp, and it must be repeated/reconfirmed each year. Adults also need a test to participate in water activities. There are supervised activities every day at either the pool or the lake. Non-swimmers can still enter a shallow part of the pool and participate. The test for a “non-swimmer” is that they simply enter the water. There are also “beginner” and “swimmer” levels which give kids access to deeper areas of the pool. “Swimmers” have access to the entire pool and also some lake activities like rowboats.
If you can not attend, the scout will have to do a swim test immediately after checkin at Akelaland. This works fine, but it just takes time while the scout waits in line for the first hour or so rather than exploring the campsite and getting organized.
I also strongly recommend everyone stick around for pre-camp meeting, especially those who have not been to camp in the past. This will be your chance to get your questions about camp answered.
As usual feel free to email me with any questions at cam5b@yahoo.com
