It is time to look at your summer plans and think about Cub Scout summer camp!
Akelaland deposits for the discounted rate will be due at Blue and Gold (Feb 22). It is a $100 deposit for each scout attending.
Read on to learn about Akelaland and Cub Scout summer camp. Please note our updated guidance on adult participation at camp!
What is Akelaland?
Akelaland is a summer resident (sleep over) camp. There is a daily schedule focused on cub scout skills and advancement, for each level. The scouts have water activities, outdoor skills, shooting sports, and free time daily. Plus dining in the mess hall, fun songs, and great supervision by a wonderful staff of camp counselors (and of course Pack 29 leaders).
But our video of Pack 29 at Akelaland tells the story best: 2019 Pack 29 at Akelaland

About Adult Participation
Parents and adults are strongly encouraged to attend with your scout. Camp provides a great experience for scouts to share with a parent or other caring adult.
A minimum level of adult supervision is required to maintain BSA required 2-deep adult leadership at all activities.
Parents may send a scout on their own, but please consider your child’s ability and maturity for a week of resident camp and please discuss with a leader for approval. Older scouts or scouts with camp experience are better suited to attending without an adult. We recommend younger scouts or first timers at camp come with an adult.
Before a scout from any den is allowed to attend without a parent, each den must have a minimum of 2 adult chaperones attending camp to ensure enough supervision.
Paperwork required
All scouts and adults must EACH have BSA Medical forms signed by your physician.
All adults must also have current BSA youth protection training (online) and all PA Act 15 clearances. Details will be posted on blog and facebook.
About Camperships
Minsi council offers Camperships to help offset some cost of camp for those with significant financial need or special circumstances. For more information please speak to a leader. Any campership applications are due to council end of March, and must be cleared through Pack committee in March.
What else do I need to know?
A full recommended packing list will be provided. Scouts will wear Pack 29 tshirts each day, these tshirts are provided to scouts from the pack. Continue to reuse old shirts unless outgrown, damaged, or completely worn out. If a scout outgrows shirts but they are in good shape please return to a pack leader and they can be available for future scouts.
A pre-camp meeting and swim test will be organized in June (past years at Palmer Pool). This clears scout for swimming at camp (at appropriate level) and is a final chance for Q&A.
Day Camps
If Akelaland is not right for you, Minsi Council typically offers multiple local day camps in June and July. Scouts can still earn advancements and enjoy camp while returning home every evening. Information about day camps will be posted when available from council.
