We have a special trip to announce!
Conditions at Camp Minsi seem to be just right for hiking on the frozen lake! This is a highlight of our winter cabin camping weekend when the lake freezes over. We can’t do winter camping but we can do a day trip to try walking across the lake and maybe see some ice fishing, and learn about the scout camp.
We will try to go this Saturday Jan 30. Meet at Arndt’s at 9 AM. We will drive the 45 mins to camp Minsi, hike for a few hours, then return home. Plans for lunch are TBD but we will try to work something out.
Each scout should drive with their own parent/family to minimize and risk for COVID spread. If there is another family who is already in regular contact with yours, you may work out car pools directly with them. Masks will be required during the hike (BSA policy).
Bundle up for several hours outdoors in the cold – including good winter boots, jackets, hat, gloves, etc.
Conditions change quickly and this will be weather dependent and depending on the ice conditions. The latest reports are over 6 inches of ice on the lake and that should grow throughout the week.
We will post info throughout the week as we know more and our plans develop.
Until then check out this link for a video and some background on how the lake was used for ice harvesting in the past.
