Uniform Tips!

With so many new scouts there are questions about uniforms! Ask your den leader or any leader if you are unsure but here are some tips:

Our “Full” uniform is also called “Class A”. We wear this at any public outing and at about half of the pack meetings.

The Pack 29 T-shirts or any scouting shirt is a “Class B” uniform. Wear these at any scout event that doesn’t require Class A.

The best place to get your uniform is at Minsi Scout shop – located on Postal Road near the airport. Check the webpage for contact info and current hours (be sure to look at RETAIL STORE hours, not scout offices):

https://www.minsitrails.org/about-us/service-center-scout-shop/60149

You can also order online at https://www.scoutshop.org/ but it can be difficult to figure out sizing. Also, at the shop the staff will help point you to what you need.

Here’s what you need for Class A uniform:

Lions – just the blue Lions t-shirt. Neckerchief and hat are optional.

Patches: Except for Lions, everyone needs patches on their shirt. The scout store help you find what you need. Council Patch, world scout patch, Pack numbers, den number (ask your den leader what your number is). Do not buy rank patches – the scouts earn these during the year. You can sew these on, or use adhesive such as “badge magic” but note that it is impossible to remove without leaving a stain on the shirt. The store will also sew patches on for a fee.

Tiger/Wolf/Bear – the Blue button down class A shirt, rank neckerchief, and a slide. A scout belt is also required because this is where they put all their belt loop advancements. Hat is optional (if your child likes hats, get it, if not you can skip). Scout pants/shorts are optional. If you choose not to buy the scout pants please wear any “nice” shorts/pants with belt loops (no sweat pants or athletic shorts).

Webelos and AOL – the tan button down Class A shirt, rank neckerchief, and a slide, plus the webelos ribbon to put their pins. Hat is optional. Scout pants / shorts are optional – again if you do not get scout pants wear nice pants or shorts (no sweatpants or athletic pants).

The scout gear is expensive but it does last and is good quality. Buy large as the blue shirts could be worn for 3 years and the tan shirts can be worn for 1.5 years plus can move into BSA with the scouts. Ask around for hand me downs too if you know someone who no longer needs last years neckerchief etc. The pack can collect old uniform gear and pass on as well.

Any questions ask any leader for more tips.
