Here is all the information about Akelaland. We will be posting and providing more info as all these dates approach.

What is Akelaland?

Akelaland is our summer resident (sleep over) camp. The boys get to do all sorts of fun and exciting activities like hiking, swimming, fishing, camp fire stories, s’mores, row boating, canoeing, night hikes, more s’mores, theme hikes, a water carnival, a belly flop contest, singing songs, Scoutcraft and scout skills, whittling, and oh MORE S’MORES!!!

The Arrow of Light (Webelo 2s) will attend Pioneer camp program. They spend their program time with the boy scouts learning new skills, team building, and exciting new challenges to prepare for the next level of scouting. They also spend a night camping out and cooking with the boy scouts and get to go see the Order of the Arrow call out.

See more about it here: Akelaland Camp Videos

Where and When is it?

Where: Akelaland Cub Scout Resident Camp (at Trexler Scout Reservation)

45 minute drive from Forks Township. (Address: RR 1 Box 1629-A, Kunkletown, PA 18350)

When: July 16-21 (Sunday to Friday) or mini-week July 16-19 (Sunday – Wednesday)

What Does it Cost?

$400 for a full week scout and $155 for a full week adult

$320 for mini-week scout and $100 mini-week adult

This cost includes the camp fees, food and snacks for the week, and camp t-shirts.

FULL PAYMENT for any balances and new registrations is requested at the April pack meeting.

Not sure if you or your scout are ready for a full week? There is a mini week option that runs from Sunday to Wednesday. You can also decide at camp to stay longer and pay the balance if you like.

Minsi council offers Camperships to help offset the cost of camp for those with finanical need. For more information and to obtain the forms see this link. Any campership applications are due April 1. Campership info

What else do I need to know?

Sometime in late May or early June, we will have a pre-camp meeting where we will review all the details and provide a camp packing list. We will also distribute t-shirts. All kids attending and parents will have color coordinated pack 29 t-shirts to wear each day.

Please start looking through your old shirts if you have them confirm what you need and what has been outgrown. A signup for t-shirts will be sent out soon. You can turn in outgrown shirts at the April pack meeting. Please re-use shirts as much as possible to keep costs manageable.

Also we will arrange for a swim test prior to camp. This eliminates the need to stand and wait upon arrival at Akelaland. We have done this in the past at Palmer pool and will try to do it again this year, in early June.

What paperwork do I need?

All Kids and adults must have BSA medical forms completed. This is required EACH YEAR. A separate form is needed for each child and adult. Section A/B are completed by you, section C by a physician. Bring the forms to camp. Camp will not admit any attendees without these forms.

BSA Medical Forms

Adults attending need the following:

BSA youth protection training completed within past 2 years. Available at my.scouting.org. After you create an account, there is a link on top right of the page for youth protection training. Print a save a copy of your certificate and bring it to camp.

PA Act 15 clearances are required for all adults attending. This is the same requirement for any coaching, volunteering, or other youth leadership activities in Pennsylvania. You can bring copies of your existing clearances if you already have them. Some of these clearances take several weeks to receive so you should begin ASAP:

  • Report of Criminal History from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), (free): epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
  • Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services, (free): www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/hom

The FBI clearance is required unless you have been a PA resident for 10 years, then instead there is a council waiver form:

  • Fingerprint based FBI criminal history clearance submitted through the Department of Human Services, $27.50, 5-10 minutes online and 10-15 minutes at the fingerprinting location: www.pa.cogentid.com/index_dpwNew.htm

OR

  • Volunteers who have resided in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the past 10 years, can submit a Disclosure Statement for Volunteers in lieu of the Fingerprint based FBI Clearance: Disclosure Statement & Waiver Application for FBI Background Check for volunteers

That’s too much!! What do I do now?

We will review all this at the April pack meeting and June pack graduation. Contact your den leader or Chuck Mina with any questions.
