Winter cabin camping – Adult training and clearance information

Adults should have PA Act 15 clearances AND BSA YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING (sorry I forgot to cover that last one at last meeting)

BSA youth protection training is current if completed within past 2 years. Available at my.scouting.org. After you create an account, there is a link on top right of the page for youth protection training. Print a save a copy of your certificate and bring it to camp.

Here is information about the different PA Act 15 clearance process:

PA Act 15 clearances are required for all adults for any coaching, volunteering, or other youth leadership activities in Pennsylvania. You can bring copies of your existing clearances if you already have them. Some of these clearances take several weeks to receive so you should begin ASAP:

  • Report of Criminal History from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), (free): epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
  • Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services, (free): www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/hom

The FBI clearance is required unless you have been a PA resident for 10 years, then instead there is a council waiver form:

  • Fingerprint based FBI criminal history clearance submitted through the Department of Human Services, $27.50, 5-10 minutes online and 10-15 minutes at the fingerprinting location: www.pa.cogentid.com/index_dpwNew.htm

OR

  • Volunteers who have resided in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the past 10 years, can submit a Disclosure Statement for Volunteers in lieu of the Fingerprint based FBI Clearance: Disclosure Statement & Waiver Application for FBI Background Check for volunteers

    Chuck,

Good morning. Logan and I won’t be able to attend the campout. He’s just getting over a cold and with the Blakeslee weather looking pretty damp this weekend, we don’t want to risk aggravating it. Not sure if a refund is possible. No big deal if not. Either way, just wanted to let you know.

    Thanks, Lou Wesely
