Cubmaster’s Notes
Keeping an Eye on the Prize
We’re closing in on the end of the year, and we’ve had another great year together. From the first campout in September to the Pinewood Derby races in March, our Scouts have shown up, worked hard, and grown more than a few inches (both in height and in character).
But as any seasoned hiker will tell you, the last mile is often the one where you’re tempted to slow down. That’s why our theme for this month is Keeping an Eye on the Prize.
We are officially in the “home stretch” of the scouting year. For many of our Scouts, the “prize” is that new rank patch, a belt full of adventure loops, or the excitement of crossing the bridge to the next rank. We’ve come so far, but there are still a few boxes to check, a few requirements to wrap up, and a few more opportunities for our Scouts to serve our community.
This month, we’ll trade out a Pack meeting for the annual Easton Memorial Day parade and a pack fundraiser. Both events offer our scouts an opportunity to be out in the community and represent our pack in a meaningful way!
Scouting is a journey, not a race, but there is a special kind of pride that comes from crossing the finish line knowing you gave it your all. Let’s help our scouts keep their focus, support one another, and finish this year with a “Do Your Best” attitude.
April Recognitions
- Eric Tate, Emmet O’Hanlon, and Hannah Ehret for planning the April pack meeting
- Jen and Stephen Schleig for coordinating Summer Camp registration.
April Den Activities
In April, we had a more normal schedule with two den meetings and a Pack meeting. The theme of our pack meeting was Earth Day. We learned how to make seed paper and identify plants by looking at their leaves. We also had a treasure hunt competition, where scouts learned how to make maps, and we had a trash-sorting relay race, where two teams raced to sort items into three bins; Trash, Recycle, and Compost.
Lions & Tigers
In April, the Lions and Tigers learned about being courteous and about shields and castles. They made their own knight shield and build some castles using LEGOS. At another den meeting, they went on a short hike and learned about the Six Essentials.
Webelos
The Webelos worked on the My Community adventure this month, where they had the opportunity to host state Rep. Robert Freeman to learn about voting, the legislation process, and the importance of doing your civic duty.
May Pack Updates
Summer Camp 2026
If you signed up for Summer Camp, you should have received an email about deadlines and next steps. Here is the most important info that everyone needs to know at this time.
- Final payments will be due on 5/31. Please coordinate payments with Jen Schleig (sjmznschleig@gmail.com). Please let us know if you plan to use funds from your scout account so we can provide the correct balance.
- Please provide your Class B t-shirt needs to Mike Ehret (pack29easton@gmail.com) by 5/15. We will wear a different color each day, so we need to know the sizes and colors that you’re missing.
- All adults are required to have their clearances and be registered as a leader. We’ll work directly with adults who need to complete this, but reach out if you’re unsure.
- All scouts and adults must come to camp with a completed medical form. If you’ve had a physical this year, you can send this to your doctor and have them complete Part C. Here is a link to that form.
If you have any questions, please contact Stephen Schleig (schleig84@gmail.com) and Jen Schleig (sjmznschleig@gmail.com).
Fundraising
McDonald’s Dine & Donate Fundraiser
This year’s McDonald’s Dine & Donate event will take place on May 18, from 4:00-8:00 PM. We will be set up at the McDonalds on Rte. 248, in the Walmart shopping center. This is a low-effort event, but we’ll need some scout families to staff the table for one hour each. More information and sign-ups can be found at this Sign-Up Genius link.
